Preparation and characterization of imprinted zeolite-Y for p-cresol removal in haemodialysis

Rumah Ginjal - In this work, the novel imprinted zeolite (IZ) was synthesized, and its properties and performance in terms of adsorption of p-Cresol, which represent the protein-bounded uremic toxins in aqueous phase under phosphate buffer saline, were studied and compared with the synthesized zeolite-Y (ZeoY-S) and commercial CBV 100 zeolite-Y (ZeoY-C).The ZeoY-S was synthesized from sodium aluminate, NaOH, H2O and SiO2 under aging for 24 h at room temperature and hydrothermal condition for 24 h at 100 °C, with an initial composition of 10SiO2:Al2O3:4Na2O:180H2O.

Determiner of Poor Sleep Quality in Chronic Kidney Disease Patients Links to Elevated Diastolic Blood Pressure, hs-CRP, and Blood-count-based Inflammatory Predictors

Rumah Ginjal - BACKGROUND: Sleep deprivation is strongly associated with cardiovascular disease (CVD) via sympathetic overstimulation and systemic inflammation in general population. However, the significance of poor sleep quality in chronic kidney disease (CKD) is still underexplored. METHODS: This study assessed the sleep quality of 39 with non-dialysis CKD (ND CKD) patients and 25 hemodialysis CKD (HD CKD) patients using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire. Poor sleeper was defined as individual with PSQI > 5.

Incorporation Of Imprinted-Zeolite To Polyethersulfone/Cellulose Acetate Membrane For Creatinine Removal In Hemodialysis Treatment

Abstract Polyethersulfon (PES) membrane has been widely used in the biomedical field especially in hemodialysis application. Many modifications of membranes have been applied into hemodialysis such as diffusion, adsorption, and mixed-matrix membrane. The main problem of those membranes is less selectivity to attract the uremic toxins. In this study, we report the modification of PES mixed with cellulose acetate (PES/CA) membrane as mixed-matrix membrane (MMM) using imprinted-zeolite (PES/CA/IZC) in order to increase the selectivity for targeted analyte. The hollow fibre membranes (HFM) were fabricated by dry-wet spinning technique.

Anti-inflammatory effect of ethyl acetate fraction of galing plant extract (Cayratia trifolia) on male wistar rats induced by carrageenan

Abstract Inflammation (inflammation) is a local reaction from living tissue or cells to an excitatory or injury. This study aims to determine the anti-inflammatory activity of ethyl acetate fraction of galling plant extract (Cayratia trifolia) on one of the inflammatory parameters, namely swelling in the legs of rat with 1% carrageenan induction. In addition, this study also aims to determine the effective dose of ethyl acetate fraction of galing plant extract (Cayratia trifolia) as anti-inflammatory. This study used 25 male wistar rats divided into 5 groups. Group 1 (negative control) Na CMC 0.5%, group 2 (positive control) diclofenac sodium 0.0065 mg/gBW rats, and group 3, 4 and 5 suspension ethyl acetate fractions of galing plant extract 0.0065; 0.013 and 0.026 mg/gBB rats.

Anthropometry-based Body Fat Percentage Predicts High hs-CRP in Chronic Kidney Disease Patients

BACKGROUND: Obesity is an important cardiovascular risk factor and associated with low grade inflammation in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. This study aims to assess the association between body fat with serum high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) level in CKD patients. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was performed in 71 CKD  patients.  Anthropometric  measurements  included body weight, height, body mass index (BMI), body fat percentage (BFP), skinfold thickness (SKF) of triceps and biceps were performed by trained physician. BFP was calculated using Kwok’s Formula and hs-CRP was measured by Particle enhanced Turbidimetry.
